Just to refresh – We had considered 4 BLOCKERS under Mind Productivity. In no order of sequence below are those 4.
- Low Self-Esteem
- Negative Emotions
So far we had discussed first 3. Let’s discuss the 4th BLOCKER – Distractibility in this lesson. Before we get into the details, let me quickly the clarify difference between multi-tasking and distractibility even though both have some link. Multi-tasking is trying to do multiple things at a time or switching between different tasks (assuming you are focused on the task while you are on the task). Where as distractibility is you are easily getting distracted or unable to focus longer time. Basically having very low attention span.
You know that our distractibility is becoming worse day by by with Digital distractions (addiction!). Just for records I am noting here some facts from theguardian.com news. I am sure this will become further worse coming days !!. People check phone for every 12 mins as of now !!.
“In August 2018, research from the UK’s telecoms regulator, Ofcom, reported that people check their smartphones on an average every 12 minutes during their waking hours, with 71% saying they never turn their phone off and 40% saying they check them within five minutes of waking. Both Facebook and Instagramannounced they were developing new tools designed to limit usage in response to claims that excessive social media use can have a negative impact on mental health.”
Can you imagine what kind of “Deep Work” is possible if we get distracted every 12 mins?. If you can conquer this distractibility and create any kind of deep work in your business/career you will get a definitive competitive advantage. Why? Because most people are busy in distractions !!.
You will be surprised to know how many executives/entrepreneurs I came across whose root challenge is time management. When I go deep root level I end up finding “Distractibility” as the real root cause of the issue. In my Business coaching/Executive coaching experience, I have personally seen business turn arounds just by eliminating this distractibility monster.
Take a look at one full week (at least one day) of your time and note down your distractibility rate. You will be amazed !!. Conquer this and you may improve 30% of your business/career (as per my experience !!).
