“Our intuition about the future is linear. But the reality of information technology is exponential, and that makes a profound difference. If I take 30 steps linearly, I get to 30. If I take 30 steps exponentially, I get to a billion ” – Ray Kurzweil
Every day technology is changing much rapidly than you can visualize. You are probably under estimating the magnitude of the change. That’s exactly what Ray is saying in the above quote.
Do you think our lives (beyond our generations) will be good in the future or bad?. Do you think all the automation, machine intelligence and advancements in each and every aspect of lives are bad or good? You hear both sides of the stories as always but most often on the negative and catastrophic side. One side we hear the machines will take away all jobs, we have to compete with machines, etc. And the other side we hear that many new industries and jobs will emerge. But unlike any other change or transformation in the past this wave (Advanced Technology) is very different – exponential change.
I personally think future is going to be very exciting and the technology will bring the changes that human beings on their own would not be able to do on their own.
On the other neutral plane, it really doesn’t matter whether you think the future is going to be good or bad. Why? Because every change comes with its won advantage and disadvantage. And depends upon which side you are looking at.
Since the human evolution every change has gone through an interesting cycle. And then it goes to the next plane and then goes through the same cycle – I have coined this as “1/4th U Turn”. If you understand this then we don’t really get over whelmed about any change. More on this tomorrow.
Disclaimer: The way I look at future purely based what I see in my futuristic mind. May be some random thoughts or some good predictions. No idea. But you can have some fun and futuristic visualization.
